About Us: Smith Engineering is a leading provider of engineering services for vessels in the Aquaculture Industry. We are currently seeking a highly skilled Leading Senior Hand to join our team and support our current operations.

Job Description: We are looking for a dedicated Leading Senior Hand with a strong background in mechanical trades. This is a hands-on role, that will involve some traveling to different ports in the region for boat maintenance. The successful candidate will take on a leadership role, guiding and supporting our team to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise a team of mechanical fitters and technicians.

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily maintenance and repair tasks.

  • Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and procedures.

  • Perform hands-on mechanical work.

  • Train and mentor apprentices

  • Monitor and report on team performance and project progress.

 

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Leading Hand or similar supervisory role.

  • Strong mechanical trade background, with a understanding of engines, specifically marine. With relevant qualifications or certifications preferred.

  • Excellent leadership, communication and team management skills.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

  • Proficiency in mechanical engineering and diagnostics, fabrication and maintenance

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

  • Some basic hydraulic knowledge and welding skills are an advantage.

  • Good communication, time keeping and interpersonal skills.

Fitter Welder Contractor

Location: Motueka Tasman, New Zealand

About Us: Smith Engineering is a leading provider of engineering services for vessels in the Aquaculture Industry.  We are seeking a highly skilled Fitter Welder Contractor for a special project lasting up to 5 months.

Job Description: We are looking for a talented Fitter Welder with proven experience in various welding techniques and fabrication. The successful candidate will be working on a special project that will last up to 5 months, starting mid March

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform TIG welding, MIG welding, steel welding, aluminium welding, and flux core welding.

  • Fabricate and assemble mechanical components and structures.

  • Perform pipework fabrication and installation.

  • Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

  • Ensure all work meets quality standards and safety regulations.

 

 

 

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Fitter Welder with a strong background in various welding techniques.

  • Proficiency in TIG welding, MIG welding, steel welding, aluminium welding, and flux core welding.

  • Extensive fabrication experience, including pipework.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

  • Strong attention to detail and quality.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.
